Starter Series: Tyranitar - Whimsical Tricks | Pokémon Champions

I returned to YouTube to kick off a new Pokémon Champions series built around easy-to-build starter teams. The first team starts with Tyranitar and its predetermined partners: Whimsicott, Sylveon, Aggron, Drampa, and Arcanine.

I begin by explaining how the "starter team" system works, then dive into one of the team's biggest tricks: a Whimsicott Trick Room strategy that many opponents mistake for the much more common Tailwind setup. I also cover Whimsicott's utility options, including Encore, Fake Tears, and Memento, and how each can support the rest of the team.

Next, I break down the team's main offensive threats. Sylveon's Pixilate-boosted Hyper Voice is one of the primary win conditions, while its incredibly powerful Hyper Beam can secure key knockouts. Drampa serves as another major damage dealer, using Mega Calm Mind to become a dangerous Hyper Voice sweeper.

I then play two ranked matches to show the team in action. The first is a win where Trick Room tempo and spread damage carry me through the battle. The second is a loss that highlights both my mistakes—such as using Fake Tears into a Contrary Pokémon—and some of the team's weaknesses against stronger opponents and repeated Protect stalling.

To wrap up, I discuss the team's biggest flaws, especially its vulnerability to Fighting- and Ground-type Pokémon. I suggest that Aggron or Arcanine are the most replaceable members and explore possible upgrades, including Farigiraf and Mega Scrafty.
